Our major purpose in education is to open our children up to the past, present and future wonders of our world in all its aspects (from animals to Shakespeare), and this objective can be accomplished with compassion, high motivation and curiosity. Even the skill subjects such as reading, writing, spelling, language, arithmetic and mathematics can be taught and learned in enthusiastic, active, motivating ways. The Bannatyne Reading, Writing, Spelling and Language Program motivates students in enthusiastic, active, enjoyable ways.

In the pages which follow you will find over eighty motivational techniques, all of them very practical things to do or be.

These motivators for the classroom include: voice control and communication, positive appreciation, certificates, praise, reinforcers, interesting equipment, physical activities, games and competitions, academic and curriculum motivators, personal relationships, teacher student interaction, humor, performing arts methods, projects, classroom decorations and displays.

These are followed by a discussion of the motivation techniques and ideas used in practical ways in the Bannatyne Reading, Writing, Spelling and Language Program.

Praise is very effective in building a sound self-concept in students and therefore I have listed over 100 ways to praise. These are actual statements that teachers can learn to say alongside the ones they already use in the classroom. There is also a list of the variety of aspects of student endeavor that can be praised such as the way an activity is done, the final achievement, the effort and energy expended, the improvement made, as well as the enthusiasm, speed, quality and neatness with which the work is done.

The Bannatyne Reading Program is a superb, proven reading program. The Bannatyne Reading Program is unlike any other reading programs currently available. This means you will find many features which are only in the Bannatyne Reading Program. Numerous kinds of motivation are seamlessly built into the Bannatyne Reading Program. In some Commonwealth countries the program may be referred to as: Bannatyne Programme, or Bannatyne Reading Programme
