Bannatyne
Reading, Writing, Spelling and Language Program
Third Edition
COUNTRIES THAT WANT
ENGLISH
AS THEIR SECOND LANGUAGE

The Bannatyne
Reading, Writing, Spelling and Language Program has
great potential for educating all students quickly and thoroughly in speaking,
reading, spelling and writing English as a fluent second
language. One of the
tremendous advantages of the Bannatyne Program is its continuous pervasive
emphasis on interactive conversation and discussion between teacher and students
as well as between the students themselves. Students for whom English is not
their primary language require this constant auditory-vocal input and
interaction in order to become fluent listeners and speakers
of English.
Only a comprehensive, task-analyzed, integrated,
conversational program, reading program, writing
program, spelling program, language program, and reading comprehension training
program, such as the Bannatyne
Reading Program, will work super-efficiently with all kinds of
students from the verbally gifted to those with low IQs.
Which countries can utilize the
Bannatyne Program:
Every country around the world, from Afghanistan
to Zimbabwe, can use the Bannatyne
Reading, Writing, Spelling and Language Program
to
teach their STUDENTS to speak, read, write, spell and comprehend the English
language fluently and efficiently.

Age considerations for students:
Traditionally the teaching of English has been left to the High Schools because
it was assumed in previous centuries that only the highly educated would need to
learn a foreign language. Mostly these traditional courses were designed to
enable the students to read and write English literature because, back then,
travel was unusual and conversations with English-speaking people would be rare.
However, in the twenty-first century, travel for business and pleasure has
become commonplace, and the Internet (with its multi-media technology) is
linking all the countries of the world with English--now the lingua franca of
the world. Cell phones are also making international conversations commonplace.
The younger that children are when they begin to learn any language, the
better. The best time to start teaching students spoken English is birth, but as
this is obviously a rare possibility in non-English-speaking countries, the next
best time is at school entry, preferably in pre-school or
kindergarten. The Bannatyne Program is ideal for teaching English to all
beginning students in the 3 to 7 age-range of school entry. Of course, the Bannatyne
Program can also be used for teaching English to older students.
Countries where very little English is
currently spoken:
For countries such as China, Japan,
Russia and Thailand, where very few
elementary school teachers may speak English, we propose the following plan:
- We
begin by quickly training a relatively few bilingual teachers (who already
know English) in how to use
the Bannatyne Reading, Writing, Spelling and Language Program, perhaps in
several areas of the country at the same time.
- Once
thoroughly versed in how to use the Bannatyne Program these bilingual
teachers would use it to teach English to larger groups of non-English-speaking elementary school teachers.
- These
elementary school teachers, who would now know all the necessary facets of the
English language, will begin teaching it to their classroom students.
- They
also train two or three other teachers, who then teach their students as
well as two or three more teachers.
- This
dual pattern of teacher and student training continues uninterrupted until
soon, like the chess board analogy of exponential doubling up, thousands of
teachers and millions of elementary school students are involved in reading, writing, spelling
and speaking English competently.
- All
students and teachers who have thus learned English are encouraged to speak
and write English with each other whenever possible, and to continue to read
English books supplied by their school.
- An
entire new generation will have very competent English-speaking capabilities
within a few years.
Countries where English is
currently spoken by educated people:
For countries such as India, Sri Lanka,
and South
Africa, where most elementary school teachers speak English, we propose the following plan:
- We
begin by quickly training a relatively few of these bilingual teachers (who
already know English) in how to use
the Bannatyne Reading, Writing, Spelling and Language Program, perhaps in
several areas of the country at the same time.
- Once
thoroughly versed in how to use the Bannatyne Program these bilingual
teachers would use it to teach the Bannatyne Program to larger
groups of English-speaking elementary school teachers at Teacher Training Workshops.
- These
English-speaking elementary school teachers, who would now know how to use and teach
the Bannatyne Program, will begin teaching it to their classroom
students.
- They
also train two or three other teachers to use the Bannatyne Program, who then teach their students as
well as two or three more English-speaking teachers.
- Non-English-speaking teachers could also be trained to speak, read, write and spell
English by using the Bannatyne Program in more extended Teacher Training
courses.
- This
dual pattern of teacher and student training continues uninterrupted until
soon, like the chess board analogy of exponential doubling up, thousands of
teachers and millions of elementary students are involved in reading, writing, spelling
and speaking English competently.
- All
students who have thus learned English are encouraged to speak
and write English with each other whenever possible, and to continue to read
English books supplied by their school.
- An
entire new generation will have very competent English-speaking capabilities
within a few years.
Countries where English is
currently spoken by all the teachers and many citizens:
For countries such as The Netherlands,
Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Denmark, where all school teachers speak
fluent English, we propose the following plan:
- We
begin by quickly training a relatively few of these bilingual teachers (who
are fluent in English) in how to use
the Bannatyne Reading, Writing, Spelling and Language Program, perhaps in
several areas of the country at the same time.
- Once
thoroughly versed in how to use the Bannatyne Program these bilingual
Trainer Teachers would use it to teach the use of Bannatyne Program to
much larger groups of English
speaking elementary school teachers at Teacher Training Workshops, until all
elementary school teachers are familiar with how to use and teach the
Bannatyne Program.
- These
English-speaking
elementary school teachers, who would now know how to use and teach the Bannatyne
Program, will begin teaching it to their classroom students.
- All
students who have thus learned English are encouraged to speak
and write English with each other whenever possible, and to continue to read
English books supplied by their school.
- An
entire new generation will have very competent English speaking, reading,
writing and spelling capabilities
within a few years.
Countries where English is spoken by all
the teachers and all citizens:
For countries such as Singapore,
Jamaica, Belize, Trinidad and Tobago where all school teachers and all
citizens speak fluent English, we propose the following plan:
- We
begin by quickly training a relatively few elementary school teachers in how to use
the Bannatyne Reading, Writing, Spelling and Language Program.
- Once
thoroughly versed in how to use the Bannatyne Program these Trainer
Teachers would use it to teach the use of Bannatyne Program to much
larger groups of elementary school teachers at Teacher Training Workshops,
until all elementary school teachers are familiar with how to use and
teach the Bannatyne Program.
- These
elementary school teachers, who would now know how to use and teach the Bannatyne
Program, will begin teaching it to their classroom students.
- All
students who have thus learned English are encouraged to speak
and write English with each other whenever possible, and to continue to read
English books supplied by their school.
- This
new generation will have very competent English speaking, reading, writing
and spelling capabilities
within a very few years.
Important Note to
Experienced Teachers:
The Teacher Guides
of the Bannatyne Reading, Writing, Spelling and Language Program are
very detailed, thorough and complete, and therefore most
competent, experienced English-speaking reading teachers in any country,
anywhere, should have no problem teaching the Bannatyne Program without
having to do a Training Workshop. Any necessary supplemental information is
given on this Website. I can also be contacted by email if anyone has any
additional questions about teaching the Bannatyne Program.
The Bannatyne
Reading Program is a comprehensive, integrated reading program, writing
program, spelling program, language program, and reading comprehension training
program. The Bannatyne Reading Program is unlike any other reading
programs currently available. This means you will find many features which are only
in the Bannatyne Reading Program. In some Commonwealth countries the
program may be referred to as: Bannatyne Programme, or Bannatyne
Reading Programme.
